OUR STORY

About Dave & Melanie

Dave and Melanie met in 1993 at a restaurant where Melanie was Dave’s waitress and it was love at first sight! Within 1½ years they were married and started a family.

Six years later, the owner of the restaurant where they met offered to sell the couple another business that he owned. It was one of Milwaukee’s original Schlitz taverns at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave, nestled in Milwaukee’s historic Menomonee Valley. We now call it Sobelman’s Pub & Grill.

With high school educations and no culinary skills, Dave and Melanie were determined to make the most of a pub-and-grill cuisine (mainly burgers), offering the cleanest environment, friendliest service and most pleasant, cozy atmosphere possible. The result has certainly taken the pub-and-grill experience up a notch!

Famous Burgers
& Bloody Marys

Since 1999, Sobelmans has been dishing out fresh Black Angus beef patties on fresh-baked buns with quality toppings for a mouth-watering experience. By elevating the simple hamburger from something that’s good to something that’s extraordinary, Sobelmans helped create the Milwaukee burger scene we know today.

Sobelman’s pursuit to reinvent Milwaukee’s dining options extended beyond the food, too—specifically through Bloody Mary’s. The famous Bloody Mary menu gained national recognition for the outrageous concoctions, like the Bloody Beast! The towering Bloody Mary includes the signature garnishes (celery, mushrooms, olives, asparagus, cheeseballs, shrimp, sausage, and more), topped with an entire fried chicken.

Sobelmans Gives Back

For the Milwaukee community,
Sobelmans is also known for
something else: giving back.

Whether it’s a one night only promotion or an organized event, Dave and Melanie are constantly finding ways to give back to local charities and nonprofits. Between their involvement with the ALS Association, weekly charity nights with Marquette University’s student organizations, or organizations like Best Buddies, the Red Cross and United Way; Sobelmans operating within the communities we’re proud to call home.
